CEO killing: The hunt for the gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has entered its third day as new clues are emerging in the search. Someone who the New York Police Department says is wanted for questioning in the fatal shooting took a bus from Georgia and used a fake ID from New Jersey to book lodging at a New York City hostel. Shell casings: Authorities say the gunman left behind shell casings and a discarded cell phone that are now undergoing testing. At the scene of the “brazen” and “targeted” shooting, the words “deny,” “depose” and “defend” were written on shell casings, police sources told NewsNation affiliate WPIX. Some have speculated the words are connected to a book published in 2010 about health insurance claims, though an official motive for the killing has not been revealed. Read more >

Border report: An Iranian man allegedly told the Border Patrol he paid $25,000 to a Venezuelan gang with potential ties to terrorist group Hezbollah to get him into the U.S. The man told border agents he traveled from Dubai to Brazil before eventually making his way across the border in Maverick County, Texas. NYC chokehold death: The jury in the high-profile trial of Daniel Penny continues to weigh whether the former Marine was justified for placing Jordan Neely in a chokehold for several minutes on a New York City subway, but they may wind up deadlocked. The jury has sent multiple notes to the judge requesting key pieces of evidence since the deliberations began on Tuesday. Lawsuit: Neely’s father, Andre Zachary, filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Penny. Zachary accuses the Long Island native of negligence, assault and battery, which led to the death of his unarmed, 30-year-old son. Zachary is seeking a judgment awarding damages “in a sum which exceeds the jurisdictional limits of all lower Courts which would otherwise have jurisdiction,” according to the lawsuit.
