(NewsNation) — The U.S. State Department issued a “worldwide caution” alert after posts on various social media platforms called for demonstrations at U.S. and Israeli facilities on Friday, Oct. 25.

The travel warning suggests U.S. citizens avoid rallies and demonstrations and be careful if they’re near one.

“Even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without warning,” the alert said.

Tensions are high worldwide, including in the U.S., as pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian forces go head to head in demonstrations and protests amid the war in Gaza.

Earlier this year, many protests erupted on college campuses, and as Election Day approaches, the U.S. response to the war is a consideration for voters.

The first anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel was less than three weeks ago. The war has advanced into Lebanon, and many of those who survived attacks are fleeing to nearby Syria.

The latest strike came Friday morning as Israeli strikes killed 38 people in Gaza and three journalists in Lebanon.

More than 42,000 Palestinians have died since the start of the war, the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry says.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to the Middle East this week to speak with leaders about a possible cease-fire.
