BRYAN, Ohio (WANE) – Monday, police arrested a man who led officers on a pursuit so reckless that a 9-month-old infant somehow fell out of the car.
Zachary Chervenka, a man from Butler, Indiana who was wanted on an active arrest warrant, had been spotted Sunday at a store in Bryan, according to a Facebook post from the Bryan Police Department.
Officers confronted the 32-year-old, who then got in his car with two children inside and led police on a pursuit around 9:30 p.m.
Williams County court documents revealed Chervenka allegedly sped past a red light and nine stop signs. He’s also accused of speeding more than 100 mph “on a heavily traveled US highway,” according to court documents. During the chase, a 9-month-old was somehow “ejected from the moving car,” police said.
While officers didn’t initially see the infant land on the road, police said they ended the pursuit after about 15 minutes due to the weather and high speeds.
It took an hour for the infant to be found on the highway in below-freezing weather, according to court documents. The infant was said to be in fair condition at the hospital, police said in the Facebook post.
The other child in the car was 5 years old and was found safe, police said.
The Edgerton Police Department took Chervenka into custody Monday afternoon, according to the Facebook post.
