CHICAGO — Lawyers for Chicago rapper “Lil Durk” say prosecutors do not have enough valid evidence to convict him in a murder-for-hire plot.
Durk Devontay Banks, 32, was arrested in Miami on Oct. 24, as he allegedly attempted to board an international flight.
Banks is currently facing a handful of charges that stem from his alleged role in a plot to kill Georgia-based rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Terrel Bowman, over his suspected involvement in the 2020 murder of Chicago rapper King Von, whose real name is Dayvon Daquan Bennett, in Atlanta.
The attack killed Bowman’s cousin.
Banks pleaded not guilty to murder-for-hire charges during his arraignment in Los Angeles in November.
His attorneys say prosecutors are overreaching when they claim that the lyrics of one of Banks’ songs may be quoted as evidence.
Banks faces a detention hearing next week. His trial is set for January.
