Tiffany Henyard files lawsuit against political rival, rallies supporters following caucus

THORNTON TOWNSHIP, Ill. – The political drama has taken another turn in Thornton Township as Supervisor Tiffany Henyard continues to fight back after Tuesday’s caucus.

Henyard spoke with NewsNation affiliate WGN News saying she does not accept Tuesday’s election results. At an event for her supporters Saturday, she announced she’s suing her political rival for voter suppression.

“What happened to us on Dec. 3 was sort of fairness,” Henyard said. “We didn’t have our opportunity to be heard.”

Henyard ran for re-election and lost Tuesday to rival Napoleon Harris. Instead of a primary election, Thornton Township’s Democrats held a caucus on Tuesday to vote for their party’s candidate for supervisor.

“On Dec. 3, 2024, your right to vote was hijacked by your committee, man, Sen. Napoleon Harris,” Henyard said.

According to Henyard, many of her supporters were not allowed in the room. The room was reportedly full of Harris supporters from an event being held in the same room before the caucus started.

“We were all standing out there. No one was going in. It was past 6:30. We still could not get in. 6:40, we was still not going in,” Henyard supporter Carol Cook said.

The only chance Henyard has of being re-elected supervisor is if her name is written in. Henyard, who is also the mayor of Dolton, has been accused of mishandling taxpayer money in recent months.

Henyard told WGN News she and her lawyer will be filing the lawsuit Monday.
