HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 70-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting a dog in the face and telling an Horry County officer “I ought to shoot your a–,” according to police records obtained by NewsNation affiliate WBTW.
Eddie Lee Ford of Longs was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain crimes. Online records show he was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center early Tuesday morning and released the same day on a $30,500 bond.
Horry County police responded late Monday night to Donnie Circle in the Longs area for a shooting with an injured animal, according to an incident report. The responding officer spoke with the victim, who said Ford had been walking toward his house and began yelling at him.
During the argument, the victim said Ford grabbed his gun and shot at him about three times, according to the report. One of the rounds hit the victim’s dog in the face.
Additional officers responded and pointed their guns at Ford when he walked out of his front door, the report said. Ford was allegedly not cooperative and officers had to approach the house to detain him. Ford told police there were two more people inside the house.
Officers searched the house and found a gun inside the bedroom, the report said. One of the officers then went back outside, where they found a 9mm casing in the road near where the victim said Ford started shooting.
The victim then brought his dog to police, where they found it with a gunshot wound to the left side of its face, according to the report. The victim recounted what happened from the beginning, telling police that he was outside the back of his house with his dog when Ford started shouting something similar to “you better get your girl” while walking up the road.
While Ford was shouting, the victim’s dogs started running toward him, and Ford pulled out his gun and shot toward the ground, hitting one of them, the report said. The victim said Ford then pointed his gun at him and shot two or three times before returning to his home.
While Ford was being transported by police, he allegedly told an officer “I ought to shoot your a–,” according to the report. Ford was then ticketed for threatening a public employee.
