Charlotte airport workers stop strike amid pay dispute

  • Airport workers went on strike Monday
  • They returned to the job on Tuesday
  • Their demands have not been met at this time

(NewsNation) — Charlotte Douglas International Airport workers are back on the job after striking on Monday.

Employees went on strike Monday to protest their current wages, but have returned to work despite the situation remaining unsolved.

The Service Employees International Union released a statement Monday calling for “an end to poverty wages and respect on the job during the holiday travel season.”

According to authorities, workers at the airport in North Carolina’s biggest city are paid between $12.50 and $19 an hour.

Laura Kelly, an American Airlines wheelchair and escort agent at Charlotte Douglas, joined “Morning in America” to discuss why she and her colleagues protested, and are now back working.

“We’re pretty much asking for at least a $2 raise on each of our pays,” Kelly told NewsNation.

Asked what would happen if a pay raise did not occur, Kelly remained uncertain.

“I’m not quite sure when the last time that the ABM or Prospect gave a pay raise, but I truly believe that we do deserve one, and I’m hoping, with what we did yesterday and us actually getting our voices heard, maybe they will actually give us one before the Christmas holidays,” she said.
