(NewsNation) — North Carolina voters will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in some pivotal races in the 2024 general election.
Presidential race in North Carolina
Former President Donald Trump is projected to win North Carolina.
Governor race in North Carolina
Democrat Josh Stein is projected to win the governor’s race in North Carolina, where he will become the state’s first Jewish governor.
In addition to voting in the race for the White House between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, North Carolina residents will elect a new governor to replace Roy Cooper who has reached his limit of serving two consecutive terms.
North Carolina’s Attorney General, Democrat Josh Stein, a Democrat, is vying for the office against Republican and current Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.
Three third-party candidates are also on the ballot in a governor’s race that has been embroiled in controversy over statements allegedly made by Robinson on a pornographic website more than 10 years ago. Robinson has denied the allegations.
US House race in North Carolina
Democrat Donald Davis is projected to continue to represent North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District.
In what is expected to be one of the most competitive congressional races in the country, Democrat Rep. Don Davis is seeking re-election to represent District 1. Davis will face Republican Laurie Buckhout.
Statewide ballot measures in North Carolina
Voters will also consider a constitutional amendment to prohibit non-citizens from casting ballots in state and local elections.
On Tuesday, 468 U.S. congressional seats (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election.
Polls close at 7:30 p.m. local time in North Carolina, which holds 16 electoral votes.
North Carolina remains a critical swing that can often determine the outcome of a presidential election.
In 2008 the state went blue for former President Barack Obama. Since then Republicans have won the state in the last three elections.
Trump defeated President Joe Biden in the state by 1.3 percentage points in 2020.
