(NewsNation) — Nebraska voters will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in some pivotal races in the 2024 general election.
Presidential race in Nebraska
Former President Donald Trump has won Nebraska’s 1st and 3rd Congressional Districts. That gives him two of the state’s five electoral votes.
Vice President Kamala Harris has won Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District, giving her one electoral vote.
The remaining two votes will go to the statewide winner.
US Senate race in Nebraska
Republican Deb Fischer is projected to retain her seat representing Nebraska in the Senate.
In addition to casting ballots in the race for the White House between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, Nebraska voters will decide on two U.S. Senate races and on five ballot initiatives.
Both Nebraska Senate seats are up for grabs. Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer is attempting to hold the seat for her party for a third term amid a stiff challenge from independent Dan Osborn, a Navy veteran.
Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts is facing 81-year-old Democrat Preston Love, Jr.
Ricketts was appointed by Gov. Jim Pillen in 2022 after former Sen. Ben Sasse resigned to become the University of Florida president.
Preston Love, Jr. is seeking to become the first Democrat since 2006 to be elected to a U.S. Senate seat representing Nebraska.
US House race in Nebraska
In this House, Republican Rep. Mike Flood seeks re-election against Democratic Carol Blood in the 1st district.
In District 2, Republican Rep. Don Bacon is projected to win against challenger Tony Vargas and in District 3, Republican Rep. Adrian Smith, who has held the House seat for nearly 18 years, faces Daniel Ebers.
Statewide ballot measures in Nebraska
Voters considered two competing ballot measures to amend the state constitution regarding abortion.
NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ projects voters have approved Initiative 434, which prohibits abortion after the first trimester.
The other measure, Initiative 439, would guarantee the right to an abortion until fetal viability, — which the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says is typically around 24 weeks. The race had not been called as of 5 p.m. CT Wednesday.
Other ballot measures, if approved, would allow for the medical use of marijuana while another would require employers to provide paid sick leave for their workers.
On Tuesday, 468 U.S. congressional seats (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election.
Nebraska sent four electoral votes to President-elect Donald Trump and one to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Polls close in Nebraska at 8 p.m. CT and 7 p.m. MST for an election in which the state holds five electoral votes, which are split.
Since Nebraska’s electoral votes are split, both candidates have a shot at getting at least one. In 2020, President Joe Biden collected one vote from the district including Omaha known as the “blue dot”, while Trump gained the other four votes from the rest of the state.
