(NewsNation) — Presidential candidates are hitting the 2024 campaign trail ahead of the November election. You can find every campaign rally here on newsnationnow.com and in the NewsNation app.
Vice President Kamala Harris is focused on Michigan as she and former President Donald Trump blitz swing states in the final stretch of the 2024 campaign cycle.
Decision Desk HQ data suggests the race is poised to be a toss-up in six states. Michigan—part of a so-called “blue wall” along with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania—could be especially important.
Meanwhile, Trump is looking at deep blue Atlanta, Georgia, as many Georgians are heading to the polls early. More than 2.5 million ballots have been accepted in the Peach State, already more than half of the total voter turnout in 2020.
Here’s a look at what both campaigns are doing today.
Trump-Vance campaign
Former President Donald Trump will cast his ballot in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday before heading back to his Mar-a-Lago home where he will host a campaign watch party later in the evening.
JD Vance’s team said the vice presidential candidate will cast his vote Tuesday in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Harris-Walz campaign
Harris is expected to be in Washington, D.C. Tuesday where she will receive briefings and conduct internal meetings with staff. She is also scheduled to participate in radio interviews for stations in all seven swing states.
It’s uncertain when Harris will head to Howard University for election night, but that’s where her team said she will gather on Tuesday evening.
Walz isn’t done campaigning yet, heading to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, for a last-minute political stop. He will then return to Washington, D.C. later Tuesday to join Harris at her election night event.
Safety on the trail
The campaign season so far has been atypical and fraught with safety concerns.
Trump suffered a graze wound to his ear during a July 13 assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where one attendee died and at least two others were injured. About a week later, President Joe Biden announced he no longer planned to accept the Democratic nomination and endorsed Harris for the job. Harris then chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
As campaigning progressed, police would go on to arrest two more armed people who they believed posed a threat to Trump’s safety at different events. One man is accused of pointing a rifle through a tree line on Sept. 15 at Trump’s West Palm Beach, Florida, golf course where the former president was playing. Several weeks later, police arrested a man accused of possessing multiple guns and fake press passes outside of a California Trump rally.
A third man was arrested outside of a Trump campaign rally in southern California, but he denies trying to harm the former president.
Those developments haven’t kept the candidates from their regular campaign duties, including presidential and vice presidential debates and visits to key swing states ahead of the November election.
