(NewsNation) — Hawaii voters cast their ballots Tuesday in some important races in the 2024 elections.
Presidential race in Hawaii
Vice President Kamala Harris is projected to win Hawaii.
Hawaii US Senate race
Sen. Mazie Hirono is projected to retain her seat in the Senate.
Voters will elect one member to the U.S. Senate and two members to the U.S. House.
Incumbent Democratic Sen. Mazie K. Hirono — who first took office in 2013 — seeks re-election against Republican challenger Bob McDermott, a former state representative.
Hawaii races for US House
In the House, Democratic Rep. Ed Case is vying for another term in the 1st district against political newcomer Republican Patrick Largey.
Democratic Rep. Jill Tokuda is seeking reelection in the 2nd district. She faces Republican newcomer Steven Bond.
Statewide ballot measures in Hawaii
Hawaii voters have two statewide ballot measures to consider. One initiative would remove the state’s power to ban same-sex marriage. Another would change how district court judges are appointed and confirmed.
On Tuesday, 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for grabs. These elections will determine who has control over the two chambers of Congress, and ultimately, who sets the agenda for the next president’s term.
Hawaii — which has four Electoral College votes — has voted blue in the last six presidential elections. The presidential election winner must earn 270 Electoral College votes to assume office.
Early voting in Hawaii started on Oct. 22, and polls open at 7 am and close at 7 p.m. local time Tuesday.
