(NewsNation) — Georgia voters will cast their ballots Tuesday in some important races in the battleground state’s 2024 elections.

Presidential election in Georgia

Former President Donald Trump is projected to win Georgia.

Georgia races for US House

In the U.S. House, eight Republican and five Democratic incumbents are seeking re-election in races that could determine which party has control over the chamber. There are no open Senate seats in Georgia this election.

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene — known for her vocal support of former President Donald Trump — is facing Democratic challenger Shawn Harris in the 14th district.

Former Trump aide Republican Brian Jack is running in the 3rd district against Democrat Maura Keller after current Republican Rep. Drew Ferguson decided not to run for reelection.

In Georgia candidates must receive 50% of the vote to get elected. If none of the candidates hit that mark in Tuesday’s election, a runoff election will occur on Dec. 3

Statewide ballot measures in Georgia

Georgia voters will decide on three tax-related ballot initiatives Tuesday, including a question to create a separate tax court in the state’s judicial system.

Another proposal would give the state General Assembly the authority to provide certain property tax exemptions based on inflation, and a third would expand the state’s personal property exemption for those same taxes.

Georgia is one of seven key swing states this election, carrying 16 Electoral College votes in the presidential race. The presidential election winner must earn 270 Electoral College votes to assume office. President Joe Biden took Georgia in 2020, whereas Trump won the Peach State in 2016.

On Tuesday, 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for grabs. These elections will determine who has control over the two chambers of Congress, and ultimately, who sets the agenda for the next president’s term.
Early voting in Georgia started on Oct. 15, and polls for in-person voting are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time Tuesday.
