(NewsNation) — Florida voters cast their ballots Tuesday in some important races in the 2024 election.
Presidential race in Florida
Former President Donald Trump is projected to win Florida.
US Senate race in Florida
Florida Sen. Rick Scott is projected to retain his Senate seat.
Incumbent Republican Sen. Rick Scott is challenged by former Democratic Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for a Senate seat. The race’s outcome could affect the balance of power in the Senate.
Florida races for US House
Voters will also elect 28 members to the House. Nineteen Republican and eight Democratic incumbents are seeking reelection.
Florida statewide ballot measures
Florida voters have rejected a measure to legalize recreational marijuana.
Florida voters have rejected a constitutional amendment that would protect the right to abortion before fetal viability.
Six statewide ballot measures are on the ballots Tuesday. Some measures include:
- Whether to legalize recreational marijuana.
- Protecting the right to abortion before fetal viability in the state’s constitution.
- Changing school board elections from nonpartisan to partisan.
On Tuesday, 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for grabs. These elections will determine who has control over the two chambers of Congress, and ultimately, who sets the agenda for the next president’s term.
Florida — which carries 30 Electoral College votes — has gone red the last two presidential elections. The presidential election winner must earn 270 Electoral College votes to assume office.
Early voting in Florida started Oct. 26, and polls for in-person voting will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
