Final vote count will be delayed in Milwaukee

Milwaukee election officials say about 31,000 absentee ballots will be recounted because doors on ballot tabulators were not properly sealed, according to the Associated Press.

That issue will delay the release of the final vote count, though it’s unclear how long, officials said.

Officials say there was no reason to believe that any ballots already counted had been tampered with, AP reported.

Wisconsin is a key battleground state and strong turnout in Milwaukee is expected to be key to a potential Harris victory.

Jill Biden, Clinton, Obama outpaced Joe Biden’s surrogate events for Harris

With polls closing, President Joe Biden ended up not fulfilling his promise to actively campaign on the road for Vice President Harris after Labor Day.

After Harris became the nominee, the only campaign event where the two appeared together was a Pittsburgh Labor Day rally. The White House previously indicated to NewsNation that Biden and Harris would campaign together in the fall but there was no other joint event.

Back in August the president said following the Labor Day event, “I’m on the road from there on.”

The only Harris surrogate event Biden did was last Saturday in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he was born and where he hoped his roots would help build support for her in that working-class area.

“I’m telling you, Kamala Harris has character to lead this nation. So, let’s remember who the hell we are. I really mean this,” Biden said at the Carpenters Local 445.

Biden also appeared at some political events this fall for the Democrats which were not for the campaign, but where he pushed Harris’ candidacy and those of other Democrats. He spoke to a local union in Philadelphia on Friday.

The White House in the last week refused repeated requests for comment about the president’s political activities for Harris.

In the end, First Lady Jill Biden was much more active for Harris than her husband. From Oct. 11th until election day, she appeared at almost 30 surrogate events throughout the seven battleground states, according to public records.

Both former Presidents Obama and Clinton ended up being very active for Harris.

By the number of events, Bill Clinton was the most prolific high-profile surrogate for Harris. Clinton officials say he made more than 50 stops, including bus tours through North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Officials close to Obama say his strategy was driven by where he could move the needle with Democrats and persuadable voters, particularly in states with key races. Besides headlining rallies in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, he helped to raise more than $85 million for Democrats and conducted interviews with several podcasts.

Voting hours will not be extended in Louisville after morning delays

A judge has declined to grant a two-hour extension in Kentucky’s most populous county after problems with electronic poll books led to delays at some precincts, the Associated Press reported.

Ashley Tinius, a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Clerk, said no voters were turned away and the electronic issues were resolved later Tuesday morning.

The Kentucky Democratic Party had asked a judge to extend voting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. but that request was ultimately denied.

Trump claim of “massive cheating” in Philadelphia is disinformation: City Commissioner

Former President Donald Trump claimed there was “a lot of talk about massive cheating in Philadelphia” in a Truth Social post on Tuesday but local officials say that’s a lie.

“There is absolutely no truth to this allegation. It is yet another example of disinformation. Voting in Philadelphia has been safe and secure,” City Commissioner Seth Bluestein, a Republican, said on X.

Bluestein added: “We have been in regular contact with the RNC. We have been responsive to every report of irregularities at the polls to ensure Philadelphians can vote safely and securely.”

In his post, Trump falsely claimed, “Law Enforcement coming!”

The Philadelphia Police Department told CNN they were not aware of what Trump was referring to and did not know of any issues.

Pennsylvania: Poll hours extended in Cambria County

A Pennsylvania state judge ordered polls to remain open for two extra hours in Cambria County, keeping polls open until 10 p.m. instead of the statewide 8 p.m.

The county filed an emergency request to extend poll location hours after a software malfunction affected ballot-scanning machines. County officials said no one was turned away from the polls and all ballots would be counted.

Cambria County, in central Pennsylvania, backed Trump (68%) over Biden (31%) in 2020.

It remains to be seen whether the extension will delay the final result timeline in the key battleground state. Polls in all other counties will still close at 8 p.m.

Arizona: Voters discuss why they chose Trump, Harris

NewsNation’s Ali Bradley caught up with several Arizona voters who had different views on the 2024 election in one of the nation’s key swing states.

Ra Walker, 26, said he felt peer-pressured to vote for Kamala Harris as a Black man but ultimately went for Trump due to his business acumen.

“I’m not easy to influence, so I don’t do that,” Walker said.

Meanwhile, Francisco Lopez, a volunteer with the Arizona Democratic Party, chose to back Harris and said he had no problem doing so despite his Catholic faith.

“I believe that I as an American don’t have the right to push my views on other Americans,” he said.

Trump declines to say how he voted on Florida abortion measure

Former President Donald Trump would not say how he voted on Florida’s abortion ballot measure on Tuesday.

“Just stop talking about that,” Trump told a reporter after being asked twice about his vote on the state’s abortion amendment.

If approved, Florida’s Amendment 4 would prevent state lawmakers from passing any law that would “prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability” or “when necessary to protect the patient’s health.

A “No” vote opposes changing the constitution and would keep Florida’s current six-week abortion ban in place.

Michigan: Some voters ditch Trump and Harris over war in Gaza

NewsNation’s Mills Hayes spoke to multiple voters in Dearborn, Michigan who said they aren’t voting for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris because they don’t feel either is taking the war in Gaza seriously.

Michigan is home to some 200,000 Muslim registered voters who could play a decisive role in the outcome. In the state’s Democratic primary, more than 100,000 people voted “uncommitted” over the Biden administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

Russia behind non-credible bomb threats at polling locations: FBI

Polling locations in several states received non-credible bomb threats on Tuesday, many of which appeared to come from “Russian email domains,” the FBI said in a release.

“None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far,” the FBI said.

Five non-credible threats triggered temporary evacuations in two Fulton County, Georgia precincts for about 30 minutes each, Fulton County Election Director Nadine Williams said at a morning news conference.

Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger criticized Russia’s alleged interference: “They’re up to mischief it seems and they don’t want us to have a smooth, fair and accurate election.”

Aside from the slight disruption, lines were moving quickly Tuesday morning in Georgia, with check-in times under one minute at some locations.
