Clintons: ‘America is bigger’ than one election’s results

Kellie Meyer

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a statement that Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, had a “positive, forward-looking campaign to be proud of.”

“The American people have voted, and Donald Trump and JD Vance will be the next President and Vice President of the United States. We wish them well and hope they will govern for all of us,” the statement said. “We must remember that America is bigger than the results of any one election, and what we as citizens do now will make the difference between a nation that moves forward or one that falls back. We need to solve our problems and seize our opportunities together. The future of our country depends on it.”

President Joe Biden: Harris will ‘continue the fight with purpose’

Tanya Noury

U.S. President Joe Biden, in a statement about Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss in the 2024 election, called her a “tremendous partner and public servant full of integrity, courage, and character.”

Choosing Harris as vice president was the first and best decision he made as nominee for president in 2020, Biden said.

“Under extraordinary circumstances, she stepped up and led a historic campaign that embodied what’s possible when guided by a strong moral compass and a clear vision for a nation that is more free, more just, and full of more opportunities for all Americans,” Biden said. “She will continue the fight with purpose, determination, and joy. She will continue to be a champion for all Americans. Above all, she will continue to be a leader our children will look up to for generations to come as she puts her stamp on America’s future.”

Barack, Michelle Obama issue statement on Trump win

Former Democratic President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama said while Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss in the 2024 election to Republican Donald Trump was “obviously not the outcome we had hoped for,” living in a democracy means “recognizing that our point of view won’t always win out.”

The Obamas, in their statement, congratulated Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance on winning and said they could “not be prouder” of Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Issues like the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as price hikes resulting from it, created “headwinds” for democratic incumbents around the world.

“Last night showed that America is not immune,” the Obamas said. “The good news is that these problems are solvable — but only if we listen to each other, and only if we abide by the core constitutional principles and democratic norms that made this country great.”

Harris: This is the ‘time to roll up our sleeves.”

Speaking to the nation, Vice President Kamala Harris said President-elect Donald Trump’s win is not “the time to throw up our hands, it is the time to roll up our sleeves.”

She said while many people feel like the country is entering a dark time, “for the benefit of us all, I hope this is not the case.”

However, “if it is,” Harris said, “let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant, brilliant billion of stars, the light of optimism, of faith, of truth and service.”

Harris: ‘We must accept the results of the election’

While giving her concession speech, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris said she spoke to Republican President-elect Donald Trump, and said she will help him and his team with his transition. The crowd at Howard University booed when Trump was mentioned.

“A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election we accept the results,” Harris said. “That principle, as much as any other, distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny, and anyone who seeks the public trust must honor it.”

While Harris said she concedes the election, she “does not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”

Kamala Harris gives concession speech after Trump wins

Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris comes out to cheers as she makes her first remarks since losing the presidential election to Republican Donald Trump.

“My heart is full today,” she said. “Full of gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, full of love for our country and full of resolve. The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for. But hear me when I say: The light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”

Harris calls to congratulate Trump

Kellie Meyer

Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris called Republican President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on winning the 2024 presidential election, a senior Harris aide told NewsNation.

According to the aide, Harris discussed with Trump how important a peaceful transfer of power is.

In a letter to campaign staff, chair Jen O’Malley Dillon told them Harris conceded. She said the vice president and her running mate will host a call with campaign staff to “speak directly to you about what we accomplished in this short run and the road ahead for all of us.”

“Losing is unfathomably painful. It is hard. This will take a long time to process,” O’Malley Dillon wrote. “But the work of protecting America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency starts now.”
