(NewsNation) — Delaware voters will cast their votes Tuesday in some key races in the 2024 election.
Presidential election in Delaware
Vice President Kamala Harris is projected to win Delaware.
US Senate race in Delaware
Democrat Lisa Blunt Rochester is projected to win the Senate seat previously held by Sen. Tom Carper.
Voters will select a replacement for four-term Democratic U.S. Sen. Tom Carper — who is not seeking reelection — between Democratic U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, Republican candidate Eric Hansen and independent candidate Dr. Mike Katz.
US House race in Delaware
State Sen. Sarah McBride, meanwhile, won the Democratic primary for Delaware’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and now has the chance to make history as the first openly transgender person elected to Congress. She faces Republican candidate John Whalen, a former appointee to the Delaware Department of Public Safety.
Democrat Matt Meyer is projected to win the governor’s race in Delaware.
Voters will be choosing a new governor to replace John Carney, who cannot seek a third term and instead will become mayor of Wilmington after winning the Sept. 10 election. Democrat Matt Meyer is pitted against Republican candidate and current Delaware House Minority Leader Mike Ramone.
On Tuesday, 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for grabs. These elections will determine who has control over the two chambers of Congress, and ultimately, who sets the agenda for the next president’s term.
Delaware has three Electoral College votes contributing to the presidential race. The presidential election winner must earn 270 Electoral College votes to assume office.
The state has consistently voted Democrat in the presidential race since 1988.
Early voting began Oct. 25 and ended Nov. 3. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. local time on Election Day.
