OXFORD, Miss. — The murder trial for Timothy Herrington Jr., the man accused of killing University of Mississippi student Jimmie “Jay” Lee is continuing into its second week.

Over the weekend, the prosecution showed never-before-seen evidence in the capitol murder case.

On Saturday, a forensic expert formerly with the Oxford Police Department showed jurors a number of items taken as evidence from the defendant’s apartment.

That included the gray hoodie the prosecution said Herrington was seen wearing when running from Molly Barr Trail Apartments where Jay Lee’s car was found on the morning of July 8, 2022, the day Lee was reported missing.

Other evidence included a roll of duct tape Herrington allegedly purchased at the Oxford Walmart that same day, rubber gloves, trash bags, a number of used condoms, and an acrylic fingernail.

On Sunday, the jury boarded a bus and viewed some of the locations critical to the trial. It is unclear if they traveled to Grenada, Mississippi where Herrington’s parents live.

20-year-old Jimmie “Jay” Lee, who disappeared in July of 2022, was believed to have been visiting someone at Molly Barr Trails in Oxford at the time of his disappearance. Lee’s friends and family reported him missing after he failed to return home.

Herrington is accused of Lee’s death and could face the death penalty if found guilty of the crime. Lee’s body has never been found.
