(NewsNation) — This week’s hometown hero is Cpt. Marvin Wilson, the President and CEO of Marine Reach Global, a South Carolina nonprofit helping coastal communities around the world.

Wilson and Marine Reach Global do so by providing medical care to hard-to-reach communities. The healthcare includes dental services, eye surgery, and vision clinics, construction and repair assistance.

Marine Reach Global is “dedicated to exemplifying the love of Christ and advancing the Gospel of Christianity by providing medical care,” according to their website.

Wilson joined “Morning in America” to share some of the highlights of his work for the nonprofit, which has served communities for more than three decades.

“We’re saving lives, we’re stopping children human trafficking, we’re giving sight to people,” Wilson said. “One of the leading causes of suicide in third-world countries is dental pain, and we alleviate that.”

Thanks to the use of a medical ship, volunteer doctors, and other volunteers, people can have their lives significantly altered for the better.

“We do cataract surgery; a blind person can come in and in eight to 20 minutes they can see,” Wilson added.

“We have everything we need to go into a country and take people from where they are, change their future, and give them an opportunity to succeed. And that’s what we do, and we do it by demonstrating the love of God.”
