‘Completely shocked’: Family’s cat paralyzed in shooting

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — An Illinois family is searching for answers after their cat was badly injured in a shooting over the weekend.

“He’s not living his best life,” Kylie Rodriguez, whose orange cat Timmy was badly injured, said.

For nearly a week, Timmy hasn’t been his usual rambunctious, adventurous and independent self after he was shot and left paralyzed on Sunday morning.

“He seems very sad and like kind of depressed and just frustrated,” Rodriguez said.

Based on the video captured by Rodriguez’s Ring camera, she believes that the incident happened sometime between 9:37 a.m. and 10:57 a.m.

“On the 1st video, you can see him leaving the yard, like, perfectly fine and then, 10:57, he’s coming back dragging himself,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez later took Timmy to the vet who informed her that Timmy had a bullet lodged in his spine.

“I was completely shocked to hear that there was a bullet,” Rodriguez said. “Like, that was the last thing on my mind.”

Before Timmy showed up at their door last year, he was a stray.

Although Timmy still spends time outdoors, he quickly became an integral part of their family. He even wears a collar with an Airtag so they can keep track of him.

“You open the door and you yell Timmy he comes bolting in,” Rodriguez said. “He knows when to eat. He has an internal clock.”

Rodriguez shared Timmy’s experience on social media and the community quickly rallied around him.

Rodriguez said while she knows Timmy longs to jump and move around freely again, she remains hopeful that he will return to his energetic self.

Looking ahead, Rodriguez is hoping to explore treatment options and plans to take Timmy to a neurologist this week.

Rodriguez said those following Timmy’s story can watch for updates on their Instagram page.

In the meantime, Timmy’s family has set up a GunFundMe fundraiser to help cover medical expenses.
