(NewsNation) — The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office issued an unclassified annual report documenting reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs), more widely known as UFOs, received during fiscal year 2024.

The report is a required document that comes as interest in UAPs has spiked following whistleblower allegations the Pentagon is operating secret UAP retrieval programs and has evidence of nonhuman intelligence.

AARO Director Jon Kosloski said in a briefing that while the subject of UAPs is a serious one requiring scientific inquiry, there is no evidence to connect UAPs to extraterrestrials.

According to the report, most of the UAP sightings from May 1, 2003, to June 1, 2024, were actually commonplace objects, including birds, drones and balloons.

AARO received 757 reports of UAPs during the period covered in the report, and 485 of those occurred within that time frame. The remainder occurred prior to fiscal year 2024 but had not been previously reported. That brings the total number of reports received by the office to 1,652.

The report states AARO has no indication that UAPs are connected to extraterrestrials or are the result of activity by foreign adversaries of the Earthly variety.

Of the reports, 708 were in the air, 49 were reported as being in space, and none were reported to have appeared in water.

AARO resolved 49 cases during the reporting period, and an additional 243 are recommended for closure pending peer review. Another 444 cases did not have sufficient data for analysis and have been archived.

Of the cases resolved, 70% were found to be balloons, with 16% unmanned aerial systems, 8% birds, 4% satellites and 2% aircraft.

AARO determined that 21 cases are in need of further investigation.

Only one report included a possible safety issue when a commercial aircrew reported a near miss with a cylindrical object while off the coast of New York. The case has not yet been resolved.
