(NewsNation) — Missouri voters will to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in some pivotal races in the 2024 general election, including the US. Senate race between Republican incumbent Josh Hawley and Democrat challenger Lucas Kunce.

Former President Donald Trump is projected to win Missouri.

Josh Hawley is projected to retain his Senate seat representing Missouri.

Hawley gained national notoriety when he became the first U.S. Senator to challenge the results of the 2020 election ahead of the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol. Hawley was then seen with rioters and was filmed fleeing the Capitol along with heavy crowds of protesters. Kunce, an attorney, is a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Marines and serves as the director of national security at the American Economic Liberties Project.

Statewide ballot measures in Missouri

In addition to the U.S. Senate race and other local initiatives, Missouri voters considered six statewide ballot initiatives.

Voters approved a measure to guarantee abortion rights in the state, reversing the state’s near-total ban, NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ projects.

Another ballot measure prohibiting ranked-choice voting also is projected to pass.

Missouri Amendment 2 would allow the Missouri Gambling Commission to allow in-person and online sports wagering. The race was too close to call as of 4:30 p.m. CT.

Additionally, Proposition A would increase the state’s minimum wage to $15 per hour.

On Tuesday, 468 U.S. congressional seats (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election. 

Polls close in Missouri at 7 p.m. on Election Day. 

Missouri’s 10 electoral votes helped Presidential-elect Donald Trump secure victory Wendsday.

The state has been reliably Republican for decades, voting red in all but three presidential elections since 1984. Trump has won the state both times he has appeared on the ballot, including in 2020 when he defeated Joe Biden by more than 15%.
