(NewsNation) — Voters in Connecticut will cast their ballots Tuesday in some key races that could affect the balance of power in Washington.

Presidential race in Connecticut

Vice President Kamala Harris is projected to win Connecticut.

US Senate race in Connecticut

Sen. Chris Murphy is projected to retain his Senate seat.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Republican Matt Corey will challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Chris Murphy along with Justin Paglino (Green Party) and Robert Hyde of the Cheaper Gas Groceries Party. 

US House races in Connecticut

Voters in all five of Connecticut’s congressional districts will vote for their representative in the House. 

On Tuesday, 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for grabs. These elections will determine who has control over the two chambers of Congress, and ultimately, who sets the agenda for the next president’s term.

Connecticut has seven Electoral College votes contributing to the presidential race. The presidential election winner must earn 270 Electoral College votes to assume office.

Connecticut has not carried a Republican presidential candidate since former President George H.W. Bush, a native of the state, in 1988.

Early voting started on Oct. 21 in Connecticut. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
