3 dogs die from starvation, North Carolina man charged with animal cruelty

LEXINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A Lexington man is facing felony charges after 3 dogs he owned died of starvation, according to the Lexington Police Department.

At around 4:19 p.m. on Oct. 10, officers came to a home on the 300 block of Williamson Street after getting a report of a dead dog in the backyard.

At the scene, police found the dog in question dead alongside another dead dog inside a small, enclosed fence with three other dogs.

Investigators seized the remaining dogs and took them to the Davidson County Animal Shelter where a third dog later died.

On Friday morning, police took 48-year-old Jamal Moore into custody and charged him with three counts of felony killing an animal by starvation, two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and five counts of animal abandonment.

On Saturday morning, investigators returned to the home and found another dog inside. That dog was seized under the search warrant and was taken to the animal shelter.

The investigation is still ongoing.
